The parent information nights for incoming freshmen will be held March 12 and 13 at 6:30 p.m. Parents and students only need to attend one session. The meeting will be held at the high school in the presentation room. High school counselors will discuss the Indiana Diploma Requirements and Graduation Pathways.
It is recommended that parents attend and if they are not able to, they are asked to email Chris Mahuron for information at cmahuron@salemschools.us. It is also recommended that students attend so they can gain more information about choosing their diploma and freshman classes. After students work with their parents to select their freshman classes, parents will sign the scheduling form giving their approval.
There will be information provided about different diplomas such as the Academic Honors, Technical Honors and Core 40 diplomas and also ways to meet each section of the Indiana Graduation Pathways.
“Ultimately, it is an information session about graduation requirements,” said Mahuron. “It is a time to ask questions and help their child pick a diploma type and freshman classes.”
Future dates about freshman orientation, also known as Lion Kickoff, will also be discussed. Counselors will also give information about the 21st Century Scholar Program, Prosser programs/requirements, employability skills and post-secondary readiness.
